Mr Posy has a mobile phone which he never uses - just carries it in case of emergencies. Today I tried to use it but was unable to connect. We took it into the T Mobile shop and they said that if you don't use a phone for six months they delete your no.and also delete your credit!! He had about £9 cr. so wasn't best pleased. They gave him a new sim card with new number which is a pain, and we bought a £5 top up.We had no idea about this, can anyone tell me if this is normal practice with all phone suppliers, surely they could have sent a text warning? They must be raking in a bit of money from elderly people I think, my neighbour got a phone for Christmas and hasn't taken it out of the box yet!
That is my rant for today - rosy
Oh well, win some, lose some, wish someone had mentioned it tho' I could have had a few chats with the £9 :0) thanks OJ -rosy (I'd better have a word with my neighbour too')
I have a Virgin mobile and it tells you this in the instruction book.As I still have some credit on my old phone, I charge it and ring my new number so as to keep it activated - because it is a back-up if the other goes wrong or I mislay it!
I can see the logic of cancelling the sim to some extent.
People suddenly change to contract phones etc and do pass away and the providers of pre pay services may not be informed.
In the case of fixed lines the telephone companies tend to get to know if a line will not be used as line rental is being paid.
A bank will not take the money off you if it is sitting in an account for 6 months. I have some 5 year ISA'S.
The money is moved to a dormant account section.
I understand there were proposals to give some of this money to charity when there was no chance of it being claimed.
This would seem reasonable if the person has got to say 120 years old and he has not been heard from.
