You take the card out, throw away the old box and buy a new one.

When you get it,it might be worth giving Sky a ring to see if they need to adjust any settings for the different box.
This is a well-documented phenomenon, which seems to happen only when the user attempts to access the porn channels.
mike - LOL

phleb - it's actually pretty common for the older boxes. I can remember mine going one afternoon with bang and a brief flash of flame from the back of the box. Bit of a shock at the time. Wear and tear and overheating I guessed. Your box must be fairly old though, you'll be able to get a sky+ box for a very good deal. Ring sky and tell them whats happpened, and that you may have to just cancel your susbcription now....odds on they'll offer you a free box, may cost you £40 to install though. On the plus side (no pun) you wont believe how much better sky+ is.
Throw it out. Phone Sky. Tell them you wish to discontinue subscription. Then get Sky+ installed. I think it's free for new customers plus you get £100 M&S vouchers.,
