DB (De Bortoli) Petit Sirah 14%

A complex and full bodied red, with a rich bouquet of ripe plum and mocha, leading to flavours of blackberry, mocha and chocolate and just a hint of spice on the finish. Pair with rich red meat dishes, roasts and casseroles.

Available in Sainsburys for the normal price of £9.29. Pricey but worth it!

Hi NoM

The DB Petit Syrah sounds good - might even tempt me into a JS which would be the first time for a year or two.

My current tipples are some bottles from a small, independent wine shop in Ashburton - so I don't know if they are widely available :

Very nice organic Rose Syrah from Chile - Emiliano 'Adobe' 2010 - about £6.50 - big, blowsy pink (14% !)...

Also worth mentioning is that Sainsburys have the Marqués de Monistrol Cava on offer at £6.99 (down from £10.99). Cheers folks!

The Cava you mention is very much the favourite in this House (and with Guests) available at our local Village store for €3.95 (Spain)

Bit of a way to travel though, Dacortin. ;-)

I agree that it's a lovely Cava, and one of the best on British supermarket shelves.
I am in mourning and anaphylactic shock.

Experience Wine in Truro may be closing its retail to go bulk only - it's only a rumour at the moment but given it came from the café owners opposite the shop which is my nefarious coffee-drinking hole, I would think it is accurate.

It may be shortsighted ré the shop not being there for weddings and parties but I haven't yet had a chat with its owner, Nigel......What shall I do, the next decent shop is in Lady J country in Constantine?

That's a shame, DT. I know you've been a loyal customer of theirs for years.

Are there any other good wine suppliers nearby?
http://www.drinkfinder.co.uk/ - trouble is its about 20 miles from here, instead of 51

Looks good, DT. I see from the link they have a special offer on The Black Shiraz. I tried that wine many years ago and it was simply stunning - and amazing with lamb of all kinds. Sometimes it can weigh in at a whopping 15%.

Very nice organic Rose Syrah from Chile - Emiliano 'Adobe' 2010 - about £6.50 - big, blowsy pink (14% !) with loads of strawberry flavours - lovely with a few pistachio nuts as an aperitif.

Big solid Argentine Malbec - "Nieto Senetiner 2011" - just over £7 - lots of plummy taste with a hint of coffee lurking in there somewhere. Malbec is certainly my 'go to' grape for interesting reds at the moment. Ideal for a late summer BBQ.
To my surprise the wine shop has a website :

Oddly, the Rose is cheaper than over the counter, but the Malbec is rather dearer ...

The Petit Sirah (Syrah) is worth the trip to JS, Dave.

The Malbec sounds delightful. I'm just in the mood for a nice, fat red this weekend.

WOTW update:

Sainsburys have slashed the price of loads of wines. Their Taste The Difference Coolwater Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 13% is currently down to £5.99. One of the best of its kind I've tasted, it is well structured, clean and fresh with an abundance of tropical fruit on the palate and good, balanced acidity. Recommended!
