Why you have to fully open window blinds for take of and landing on airplanes??

You don`t. Although some airlines might have that as a `nice to do`. You do have to open window blinds on the doors though as outside hazards need to be assessed before evacuation.

The PA announcement always asks that blinds are fully opened and cabin crew check as part of their checks pre take off and land??

I was told that in an emergency they make you put your head down so that when you crash it will break your neck and kill you quicker.

It's probably a load of tosh but I like to believe it.

I've always thought (but don't actually know) that it was so that the passengers would all see that the ground was approaching. If you cant see out, and there's a sudden bump (as you land), it might cause panic.

To allow rescuers to see in in the event of a crash.

Having your eyes adjusted to the light outside is also a factor.

Good thought. Good job they don't mention that.

"Cabin crew prepare for landing. Would passengers please ensure all window blinds are open, in case we crash on landing. Thank you for flying with ..." etc.
