Following a full defragmentation on Local Disk C the result showed
Message 1: Some files on this volume could not be defragmented. 24 fragments.
Message 2: Please check the defragmentation report for the list of these files.
Message 3: If you use these files frequently, there might be a large impact on your system performance.
I am given a choice to Print, Save As or Close. But not other suggestions how to remove or cure the problem.
It's not necessary to DE-fragment an NTFS partition. The moment the process finishes, it will fragment again, as fragmentation is built into the way it saves files.
Leading on from this, more and more computers these days use SSDs - fragmenting one of those will, essentially, ruin it...
Hi SP, For what it's worth. I defrag and scan for viruses every time I clone my C drive as back up and it tells me it saves about 1% to 3% space on the hard drive. It will also possibly save a wee bit of time searching for the separate bits of file when working but I doubt if you would notice any difference.
Thanks for the info Wak. I have always defragged regularly and up to now never found a problem. But I am stuck with these threats as I have no instructions what to do with them.
