Well, I'm not sure if it actually affects male pattern baldness in any way, but I do know that excessive hair drying and combing can damage anyone's hair, and may cause it to thin out by making the hair weak and prone to breakage.
I can't see why it would be any different for men than it is for women. Male pattern baldness is governed by your genes, not by any external factors. Over-heated hair will be damaged, and become drier, more brittle and more prone to breakage than it would otherwise be, but the effects will grow out as the hair grows and is replaced.
Excessive heat not daily use will damage the cutuicle layer of the hair. This will give the appearance of hair looking dull and dry. You can get products with thermal protetctors in them that you apply before using a hairdryer
