I'm attempting my first ever 'letters latent' puzzle and finding it tough. A little kick-start might help.
10 A. Sending up agent in grotesque (11) ???p?????
15 D. Australian songster: money offer inveigles one with hits coming up (11) ??s?l????

The omission of letters means I can't do my usual thing of writing lists, trying to fit in letters etc.

The quotation isn't in my ODQ 6th edition 2004, but it's easily found online.
Can anyone explain 25 Down, please? I've got PELE for the Scottish palisaded enclosure, and I think the unmutilated version must be PETTLE. But I can't find a definition for the word that looks remotely like 'ruin'?
Pettle and ruin can both mean to overindulge or spoil.
Ha! Thank you kindly, sir - I hate it when I'm not quite sure why (or indeed whether) an answer is right!
Anyone still looking this? I am stuck with a lot of blanks in the NW corner. I have 1D which gives me R as the start letter of 1A but then??? My thinking is that the clue definition is returned which would have to have three letters the same -- restituted but and entry of resued is difficult to justify as I take the word play to be a synonym of coat round (sheltering) an Olympic winner in the pentathalon, heptathalon or decathalon (versatile). The clue definition can not be a ten letter athlete as this would not be in Chambers (yes I know, this is not the entry but the rule still applies). Got a cold (at least you can't catch it online) so may be I am missing something obvious. If so please give me a clue as to waht it is
(T) ria (t) hle (t) e
I've been away since Saturday, and unable to get round to it.
Managed about four so far, but unlikely to go on (been in contact with norovirus, and ahve started vomiting - fortunately Mrs J is away until Sunday, and can't be infected).
Many thanks kayakamina, great crossword.
