It would now seem that our children are no longer safe walking home from school these days.

This brutal savage sex attack, comes close on the heels of the death of a 85 year old woman, who was knocked to the ground and killed, by two young muggers snatching her bag.

Also A man who carried out a shocking unprovoked attack on a young 16-year-old girl who was punched to the ground from behind.

That's your problem, AOG, the slightest dissent and you extend your scenario to the nth (ridiculous) degree. Who mentioned 'pre-peeler' days?

I truly believe that such crimes were occurring in every decade of the 20th Century.
What *didn't* happen, though, was that they received full National reportage.
//if one cannot be concerned with what is happening around us 'today' without some harking back to pre 'Peeler' days or before, it all becomes similar to burying one's head in the sand//

The headline tiltle of your original post necessitates a comparison with the past. Then you complain when people provide one!
"Just those three words are confrontational and unnecessary."

That's really not what I'd call confrontational. And if I'm completely honest, I don't have much trust in your ability to judge the intention behind a post.

'The poster' (i.e. LazyGun) was trying to give his answer to your question - which not unreasonably involved talking about the past. Sorry if it isn't the answer you wanted, but that's kind of how talking to other human beings works sometimes.

Furthermore, you made an assertion about the past yourself and made no indication whatsoever that the responses were 'disgusting' or immoral. That only came later.

"Of course there was 'no golden crime-less age' one would be an idiot to say otherwise"

Well then your question is pretty meaningless. If you admit that there's always been horrible and despicable crimes, then nothing has 'happened' to England - it's just that there are vicious monsters out there to break our hearts just like there always have been.
If you look deep into A.O.G post even I can understand where he's going but dare not say it, look at you TV Crime watch! Typical example of the problem that people dare not talk about, The Rochdale Sex mob! I will await the regulars, watch this space A.O.G.

If you look deep into A.O.G post even I can understand where he's going but dare not say it,

Why not, are you a man or a mouse?
Are you after me getting banned again M.T.? Trigg, I'm afraid the dare not especially on here, people out there know who causes these problem but dare not say what they think about the problem, that's why the problem comes coming up again & again by the same people. Rochdale & still happening.
Oh for goodness sake just say it, TWR!!!
This thread's getting tedious now, everyone pussyfooting around in circles.
Well I have no idea what AOG is getting at, I have had a guess and apparently guessed wrong.

I think this thread would have been at home in Quizzes & Puzzles
We were discussing the floods and the OH said it never used to be as bad as it's been the last few years, but I'm not too sure. Some of the places flooded have always flooded, Malton and York spring to mind and I'm sure there are other places which were locally reknowned as flood areas, we just never heard about it. I think we're now in a situation where the 24 hour news coverage, and I'll admit to being a news junkie, is making us all far too anxious. This isn't in any way meant to belittle those whose homes are flooded however.
TWR, seriously, what on earth are you on about?
He's hinting that the problem lies with immigrants, more than likely immigrants of a certain colour and religion.
Cheers, it reads as gibberish to me.
I see that AoG is still trying to defend the indefensible.

Once again, AoG, just so everyone is clear. The title of your post implied that the links you offered were evidence of an increase in violence and a decline in safety yadayada. That was the purpose of the stories and links you offered. To pretend otherwise is risible.

Over the course of 50 or so responses, 6-7 of which were yours, all talking about the relative safety and levels of violence now compared to WWII era - you change your tack, recognising you are not making any headway. Now you condemn all posters who have answered to that point at shameful for not addressing your main point- a point you had singularly failed to express in the previous posts. You then try and defend this ridiculous change in stance, tediously and ad nauseum, for the rest of the thead.

The only poster acting shamefully here is you, and you owe the contributors to this thread an apology for insulting both their character and their intelligence.

Read posts that went before before accusing me of "extending my scenario to the nth (ridiculous) degree".

/// It's nonsense to think we live in a time of more crime, if you lived in London in the 18th century, your chances of being robbed, raped, murdered were pretty high. ///

I do not owe anyone an apology, and has regards insulting their intelligence, I am forced to question their intelligence, I have repeatedly explained my thread, but some just will not use their intelligence to accept it's meaning.

But then perhaps it goes deeper than this, they know exactly what I am getting at but it is not the subject of the thread or the way I have worded it that is the problem, it is who has dared to enter the thread, in this case AOG.

It matters not on what news story I enter, some of the jibes are all the same, issued by the usual suspects who seem to get a perverted sense of satisfaction from their acts of criticisms, insults, rudeness and sheer bad manners.

Had this thread had been entered in exactly the same way by most others nothing would have been said, one has only to look at past threads of others, they can enter non news stories and questions regarding Daily Mail prize numbers etc, etc and nothing is said, but woe betide AOG if he dared to enter similar..
Never mind, aog, this country has been going to the dogs for so many centuries, as witnessed throughout by contemporaries of our age and older, that we have to accept the inevitable and take some little comfort in the fact that we won't be around for a great many years more, to witness the dreadfulness to follow.

Incidentally, why is it, as appears to be the case, that the ones complaining over the centuries were the old men of their day? "By Jove, it wasn't like this in my day" would have been said when the speaker believed in Jove.
@AoG More nonsense whinging.

You insulted the intelligence and character of all those posters who responded to your original thread - including 6-7 posts of your own, discussing the obvious context of your OP.

You called such posters who had successfully argued with you "shameful" for ignoring the point of your OP - a point you yourself had conveniently forgotten to mention in your own responses in none of which did you suggest that respondents had the wrong point, and for 50 odd posts from other respondents. It was either a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from your unsupported contentions- or you are that lacking in intellect that you cannot properly frame your original question.

So, needlessly offensive, or ignorant, AoG? Which is it?

Stop whinging, man up, admit you were wrong and we can all move on...
