i am trying to transfer cassette tape music to my computer. I am using the headphone socket on my tape machine connected to the line in socket on my computer. I am using RIP Vinyl programme to do this. I have checked the boxes on the volume control etc. and they are OK. I cannot get any music to play. Nor will it transfer. The speakers work OK when I play through Windows Media Player. Can anyone help. Yours Colstel

(In XP, but should be similar in older versions) Open Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Audio tab and check that your soundcard is the default sound recording device.
Cant help but I have the same problem - a While ago, i could do nothing, couldnt record, nor could I hear any playback -it turned out to be a broken sound card, Having replaced the sound card everything was fine for several months but now I cant record through the line in, but have no problems with playback so I presume it cant be the sound card itself - Is it worth checking the line in connection lead as maybe that could be the culprit ?
