/// The study claimed that lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people are still 'relatively invisible' across the media. ///
/// The report commissioned by the broadcaster, which drew on audience surveys and nine 'LGB experts', concluded that all genres of programming should regularly feature non-heterosexual people, with news and drama currently the biggest problem
areas. ///
So if this materialises, will the presenter first introduce themselves by saying "Good Evening I am Jeremy your gay newscaster"?

/// Etc, etc - the double standard that seems to be supported by AOG is that we shouldn't criticise those who display traditional heterosexual male traits, but those who are obviously gay should keep it hidden. ///
And where have I said that?
I have never said they should keep their sexuality secret, but what I have asked, why do homosexuals have to constantly announce that "I am gay you know" where heterosexuals do not constantly announce their sexuality?

where heterosexuals do not constantly announce their sexuality?
But they do. They do it implicitly.
When you read stories in the paper where someone confirms they're gay, in many cases they're prompted to because someone is about to come out with a story anyway.
Straight people imply their sexuality the moment they express an interest in the opposite sex. They do it when they get married. They do it when they have children. They do it when they refer to their wife or husband.
You see the double standard?
Gay people will confirm they sexuality when they refer to their partner eg:
"What did you do at the weekend?"
"Oh, me and my boyfriend went to France for the day".
Now...what's the problem with that? Gay people don't go shouting about their sexual preference...they're just honest. Why can't gay people be honest? Why should gay people keep it hushed up when straight people don't have to?
Double standards at play.

Yes, aog. There's a gay pride week, a flag for gays, the slogan 'proud to be gay' yet there's no no "Jews' pride week" or "Proud to be Jewish" slogan. And that's a minority which has been abused, discriminated against, and treated as outsiders, and many Jews always kept their Jewishness private ,lest the non-Jews took against them. Just like homosexuals have been in our time.
These demonstrations will come to be regarded like the Veteran Car Run; a traditional event , celebrating a freedom, which no longer needs to be celebrated.
But it's simply not true that all, or indeed many, gay men go around announcing to all and sundry "I am gay". But do you find it offensive that any do? If so, why? I suspect your question is not mere innocent curiosity but prompted by a sense of unease. Gay men have thought it wise not to mention it; society was against such an "admission" and the consequences damaging. The fact that some well-known people have felt obliged to pre-empt such a claim by the press by announcing the fact themselves, suggests that society still has a tendency to think in the old way

/// So if they can handle their pop stars being gay, I don't think we need worry about them dealing with gay and lesbian presenters or characters in dramas aimed at kids. ///
So we're back to my original question;
HOW WILL YOUNGSTERS NOTICE IF A TV PRESENTER IS Gay OR NOT?
If the presenter is White, Black, Asian, Male or Female, then they would have no trouble, but since being gay has no outwardly recognisably identification, how are the kids to know, and if they are already aware of a presenter's sexuality and they accept the fact that they are gay, and 'shrug their shoulders an get on with it' why is there a need for the BBC etc to make sure that gays are intentionally selected in the first place?

I will not be drawn into an assumption that I have ever said that all gay men go around announcing that "I am gay"
Read the report and the reason for my thread, why the BBC need to employ gays, so has to somehow instruct and acquaint our youngsters regarding homosexuality, how will they do this if the presenters do not announce the fact that they are gay?

/// How will they know? Because they have access to the Internet. Television is tightly integrated with other media outlets now, so when kids watch tv, they will have websites they can visit supporting the show. ///
So it is all a simple matter of the kids taking up they time researching into who is gay or who is not?
Then when they have gained the necessary information, they can then settle down to watch their favourite TV programme, happy in the knowledge that they can now recognise if presenter happens to be gay, which in turn makes them aware that there are some who have a different sexuality to others, and to think if it hadn't been for the BBC purposely employing gays, they might not have ever have known that fact?
Incredible absolutely incredible, what a fantastic idea and we have the BBC to be thankful for that.

/// AOG - don't think youngsters give a fig. You should change your newspaper to get a balanced view of life for a change. ///
Before spewing out your insults perhaps you would be wise to read the report along with my thread first.
Of course 'youngsters couldn't care a fig' (as you put it) it is the BBC who think they should, hence the report.

No, they won't need to do any research.
In the same way that you don't need to research whether Prince William, Madonna or Paul McCartney are gay or straight.
Kids will read interviews with their favourite celebrities and find out that way - eg. "Will Young moves into new house with his boyfriend yada yada yada".
I know it's easy to be dismissive. Unless you've (say) known a gay teenager that's tried to commit suicide it can look from the outside like something to treat lightly, but I honestly think this is a positive move by the BBC.
