I have to write an essay on the advantages/disadv. of having a phone mast outside my house.

I have enough disadv's, but only 1 adv, which is that i'd have good phone signal.

Can anyone help with giving me more adv's?
thanks x

You'd be contributing to your local community as you'd be facilitating better communications between people in your area.

Also as most nimbys wouldn't want a mast outside their house, you're biting the bullet and breaking the circle for others more narrow minded than yourself.
True and if it's on your land, I imagine the phone company would pay you for having it there.
i've heard that Leukaemia and tumours are great fun !

rather you than me...
Your house would be too close to the mast and thus in its shadow (umbrella effect).

We had a mast on the school roof. Following complaints from parents the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) came in and did a full survey of non-ionising radiation with the mast on and off.
They said that any radiaition from mobile masts would be from other transmitters situated some distance away as there was no such radiation from this mast for at least 100m from the base of the mast.
On top of this 75% of the measured radiation came from a major TV transmitter situated 6miles away and about 20% from emergency services communication centre about 4 miles away.

I don't hear any complaints about radiation levels from these sources.

Whenever there's any news of local importance; imminent 40th birthday celebrations, raves, bring and buy sales etc you'll be the first to know because masts are really handy for bill-posting!
You know when you say to visitors - you can't miss my house - well in your case it would be true!

Iankirby's coments are fascinating - instead of people worrying about schools having transmitters, it sounds as if they are the safest places!
In reply to Solarjunkie - in fact that is exactly what the scientists from the NRPB said!
They said that if pressure from the parents to move the mast to a site about three quarters of a mile away was realised then the radiation levels from the phone mast would be many times greater on the school grounds than if we left it on top of the school.

the possible advantages are that your children may be born with two heads,

or you may grow an ear on your forehead
