Log Book Prob

Hi. I bought a car from a dealer last Aug. Because (I'm so un-organised) my driving license was still in my previous address, they said I would have to use this address to get their temp insurance cover. They then put all the purchase info in this address too (despite knowing I didn't live there) - I didn't actually realise, until I realised I didn't have a log book and went hunting through everything. I've contacted them and they said they informed DVLA that I was the new keeper, but the log book will have went to my old address, and probably returned to DVLA... anyway, I'm getting my DL changed over, but I'm a bit worried I'll get into bother for 'using' my old address for their insurance and I'm in need of the log book to tax the car next month... The dealer should not have used your old adddress. It is a legal requirement that your driving licence gives the correct address in case the DVLA or police etc need to contact you. It is also a legal requirement to use your correct address for insurance. What insurance do you have now ? the dealers temporary insurance would have lasted for a week at most. These temporary insurance policies normally just allow you a day or two to get the car home and arrange your own insurance, Unless it was a special deal to get inclusive insurance with the price of the car. The insurance company need to be told your new address so that they can alter the policy.
We need more information about your insurance as from what you say it looks like you may be uninsured. You can check if your car is insured by going to the 'askmid' web site and putting your reg no in.
You need to contact the DVLA and explain what happened and ask how to get it put right.

Thanks Eddie. I'm definitely insured, I have been with the same co for over 15yrs and just changed vehicles as and per - I'm fully comp insured. The dealers insurance was for one week only, I'm not sure why they insisted on it as I could have got insured on my policy immediately, but hey ho. My current insurance is at my address I'm living now, and the car is also insured at my current address.

Then you need to get hold of the DVLA ( you can get a real person on the phone if you persist) and explain why you don't have a log book and ask how to get a replacement.

You can get hold of a new one but it will cost £25 (tried to find himself's log book yesterday).

Yes I had to get a new one as well £25 , needless to say I found the old one as soon as the new one arrived.

Thanks for the replies folks. I've got the form ready to go to apply for new log book & pay the £25 :-(. But my tax needs renewed at end of month, what's the chances of getting it that soon?
