Got in late tonight 7.30 pm, unpacking shopping and dropped my mobile into the washing up bowl full of water. My phone tells me it has two messages, so still on but it won't unlock. It is not responding to me pressing the unlock icon on the front. It won't do anything at all. I can't switch it on or off. What shall I do?

or put it in your airing cupboard or on a towel on a radiator on a low heat

do not even try to switch it on again for about a week to be sure

if you do and it is still damp, if it shorts a circuit then thats it, dead phone.
definitely the rice and warm place trick
methyl, I got my phone insured at phones 4u and it is definitely insured for water damage as I paid a little extra to make sure. So some are insured. I do however agree that unless you have taken out the additional option it is unlikely to be insured.

I put the phone back together this morning having left all the bits in a bowl of rice in the airing cupboard. It's fine now. Thanks to everyone for all your help.
P.S. Wh yis the related thread to do with toilets?

^Why is
Because it mentions a mobile phone getting dropped in there in the question.
I dropped mine down the loo...don't ask...it dried out and worked a while but wouldn't charge again

So it does, Mojo. It must have picked up on the key words, mobile and submerged. How clever is that?
You shouild find that most phone insurances are a scam. They tend to be covered by most home contents insurance policies. Have a look.

Good luck with the phone Tilly, they often develop problems further down the line so don't get your hopes up just yet!

Thanks, ratter. I think you might be right .
Today I had three missed calls and, according to the log, they were sent on 1.1.1980. I bought the phone on Boxing Day. They were calls from my Auntie who has since told me that, when she rang, it said that the number was unobtainable!
