I am thinking of ditching BT for my landline and broadband provider and was looking at Plusnet, Has anyone had any dealings with this lot, are they ok? I know I will still have to pay BT for the line rental so at the end of the day is it worth the bother.
I am also thinking of a move to Plusnet because my ISP O2 has no scheduled plan to move to fibre. I would also like to see what Plusnet users here think of their service.
As Woofgang says Plusnet has been owned by BT since 2007
I've been with Plusnet for BB since Jul 2008, and have no regrets. Went for line rental too a couple of years ago.
Sure, they have occasional problems like any ISP, but they're upfront about it and keep customers informed.
Their call centre is in Sheffield - free to call 24/7. There's an excellent forum too - run by and moderated by customers, with input from Plusnet's techies.
I see the point you are making deggers. However, unless one has cable or radio linked Broadband, a BT telephone exchange is involved and a situation can develop where an ISP will blame BT for a fault and BT will blame the ISP.
In fact a neighbour of mine had great difficulty when his Talk Talk connection was playing-up. Nevertheless, that might Not be the case with Plusnet because of it's direct relationship with BT.
Unless you are to have cable put in, BT will still provide all the routing from your house back to the exchange, and will be responsible for it. If anything goes wrong BT will respond quickly, because you are its Customer, but will Plusnet ?
Same goes for Talk Talk...they provide NOTHING whatsoever....BT does all the work, including installing the line in the first place.
Is it really worth while changing just to save a few pence ?
With ADSL broadband, maintenance of the line is done by BT Openreach, who have to show 'equivalence' to *all* ISPs, including BT Retail.
Some ISPs are better than others at responding to a customer's problem, and in passing on faults to Openreach, and in my experience Plusnet are among the better ones.
That has nothing whatsoever to do with Plusnet being part of the BT Group.
I must admit that we have been with BT for years and have never had a problem. I look at the package I'm on every so often to check I'm not paying for stuff I don't need.
