Cut Finger
6 Answers
Hi! I bashed my finger last weekend on a log which fell on it as I was getting another log from the log pile. It bled quite a bit but stopped after about 5 minutes after I'd cleaned it and put a plaster on. The cut is on the knuckle so this week I've been protecting it with a plaster mainly to keep my finger straight to not open the cut. I've now decided I must let the air get to it as it's still a bit swollen, a bit blue and the cut needs to heal. Should I be concerned that my finger is still in this way or is this normal? I live on my own so nobody has seen it so maybe I'm just being a bit overactive!!!!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.cuts made with blunt things take longer to heal than a clean cut made with a sharp object. Is your finger hot? red? swollen? throbbing? sore? Is there any puss or smelly blood oozing from the wound? If all the answers are no, then just keep it clean and dry. A loose dressing will be better than a tight plaster. if the dressing gets wet the change it. If yes to any of the questions then maybe pop to see the practice nurse next week, sooner if you start to feel ill.
Thank you woofgang and sqad; you've put my mind at rest.I did think it was a bit smelly but now it's in the open, washed and cleaned, that's gone. I'll keep it open, clean and as dry as I can and hopefuly the cut will heal and the swelling will go down. This site is really good when you just need that reassurance. Thank you AB!
