I'd like to try making some bread. I have got a breadmaker (somewhere in the garage) but was not overstruck on it and the novelty soon wore off.But I seem to end up with a lot of stale bread and its so wasteful. Just hoping for a few comments and tips from people who do it already. Thanks.

Try some of the bread mixes from Aldi - very good & work a treat.

Use your bread maker just to make the dough.

Then split it into a dozen or so balls, bung them on a baking tray and bake in your conventional oven for 15/20 mins or so.

Lovely fresh bread roils - guarantee they won't last long enough to go stale.

i'll second that.
Lovely fresh bread, that's my downfall. But I've only ever made it a couple of times (no breadmaker) it took too long to make.
I bought a bread making machine about 9 years ago. I`ve never bought a loaf since. If you follow the recipes which come with the bread maker, you won`t go wrong. When you make a loaf, slice it up and put in the freezer.
I used to bake my own bread when I was married, but living on my own it's just not worth it. In fact I can go weeks without eating bread.........
Unsure what tips you are looking for. Why were you not struck by it ? I am not keen how the stirrer paddle stays in during the bake and makes a hole in the loaf but aside from that the bread is what you make it. And if you want a better crust you can always remove the dough and bake it in the oven. Stick to established recipes at the start, the machine probably came with some. After you get the hang of those consider adding things you might like. Tomato, garlic, olives, whatever, to the mix. Don't get too enthusiastic or you'll end up with lots more going stale :-)
Like craft-I used to make my own bread when I was married-at least once or twice a week, and by hand. Very satisfying. I know people want speed-but to not knead your own dough seems to be pointless...takes all the satisfaction out of making your own.
I s my breadmaker for making the dough for French loaves.
*use
You can always just cook the rolls just over half way then take them out and freeze them - then just pop them into a hot oven for 15 mins and you've got lovely freshly baked rolls. For a nice crispy crust brush them with salt water.
