I was googling a remedy for peeling fingernails (when they peel away in layers) and one website said that this can be caused by vitamin A deficiency. Is there any scientific basis to that or is it just something a non-qualified beauty person has made up?
SJ.........In a lifetime of medicine I have never seen or heard of a case of Vitamin A deficiency in the Western World. It can be caused by malnutrition which would be more obvious to the observer than "peeling nails." So............your non-qualified beauty person............is making it up.

Thanks Sqad. I thought it was probably rubbish. Some of the claims that people in the so-called beauty business make are ridiculous. If that was in any other industry, they would be sued for misrepresentation.
Thanks buenchico. I don`t think it`s anything to do with vitamin B and it`s not the other two - I hardly ever wear nail varnish and I wear rubber gloves for washing up. Probably just "one of those things"
