Assuming you are talking about some form of mortice lock (deadlock), and that you can access both sides (ie not you are locked out), the only way you are going to remove the lock is by taking the door off its hinges.

Remove the hinge screws then 'open' the door as if it was hinged on the lock side.

Could you maybe remove the door frame?
A bit more info would be useful. what type of lock is it ? do you have access to each side of the door ? rsvp

the lock is a 5 pin mortice which is put in from the edge ;;;held in by a small grub screw ,,,,
I see, it would be very difficult to get your door open withuot some damage to the door or frame, a sledge hammer or jemmy would force it, but you would have to way up the cost of repairs against that of a registered locksmith, can be found in the yellow pages etc..
Wouldn't the hinge pins be visible? If so, use a punch to try and hammer them free. If that fails cut through them with a hacksaw. Or use an angle grinder to grind the lock itself.

The cheapest method to use would be to remove the hinge pins(not screws). knock the pins loose by tapping downwards with a parallel pin punch and hammer,Then hold the end of the pin with a pair of pliers and pull downwards tapping the pliers with the hammer at the same time,Pull the door towards you untill edge of door is out of rebate then slide sideways.

The other more costly method is to cut the bolt with a small(41/2") grinder with a thin steel cutting blade,This will inevitably lead to damage of the door and frame not to mention the lock.

5 lever locks normally have steel pins in the bolt that will stop most attempts to cut them with a hacksaw.

A final tip - spray hinges with WD40 an hour or so before removing pins.

thanks all but it looks like the dorr frame has to be kicked of ,,,, i will wait another few days to see if anyone comes up with another way,,,,,

An expert will be able to open your door without doing any damage at all. Look for Locksmiths in the phone book and choose one with a local address and less than quarter page advert. Don't be fooled by a list of freephone numbers, they all go to the same national call centre.

Phone round for prices, starts around 35 labour depending on area.
