I bought a DVD as a gift for someone from Amazon. This morning there's an e-mail saying because of 'pre-order price protection' I'll get a refund of £2.99.
Does this sound OK? They give a code to use with my next purchase. This is the first time I've used Amazon and if there's something fishy here I can't see what it is.

If the email is addressed to you personally and the email refers to your purchase then I'd say it's genuine and not fishy at all

It was addressed to me and did mention the Skyfall dvd. So it's likely that it is kosher.
This happened to me just before Christmas. If you preorder for the quoted price and the price comes down, you get the difference back.

From Amazon

Pre-Order Price Guarantee

Amazon.co.uk's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it's released and dispatched. Whenever you pre-order an item eligible for our Pre-order Price Guarantee, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you place your order up to and including the release date. A Pre-order Price Guarantee message will appear on your order summary during the checkout process. If you use 1-Click ordering, Pre-order Price Guarantee protection will be automatically applied. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of any price change. Terms and Conditions apply.
I use Amazon all the time and this has happened to me several times. They just put the money back on my debit card.

Thank you all. That's reassuring.
I have also had the same refund after receiving Skyfall, putting it towards a kindle book !
