Trying to download norton anti virus update. This starts downloading at about 4 KBs. When it reaches approx. 75% it stops downloading -- says some installation files corrupt- then extracts files & says-- Try again. Have repeatedly tried again--same thing happens. Any suggestions please would be very welcome. Have already paid for this on line.

the only thing i can suggest is find your temp folder on you hard drive (it may be hidden) and delete any files from there, then try again. Failing that a remove and re-install of your virus software then an update.
I have had a similar problem for the past 2 weeks with Norton, only I downloaded OK but couldn't then install. I deleted the previous Norton anti virus product but there was one element of it that wouldn't budge. I asked the Norton technical support people (online, not telephone as this costs 18 per call) and I did - after 2 or 3 days - receive an email with detailed instructions of how to rectify the problem. That led to more problems however because in order to carry out one operation I had to go to another link to do a bit of tweaking - but then in order to carry out the function necessary to carry out that bit of tweaking I had to go to another link - and so on and so on and so on until I was totally tied up in knots. I got so frustrated that in the end I downloaded AVG anti virus and have requested a refund from Norton. I didn't want to give in because I think Norton is a great product and their staff very nice indeed - it's just a shame that sometimes the older versions cannot be overridden by the latest ones is crazy. I have updated antivirus before without a problem. By the way, I still have the offending file sitting on my computer and would be grateful, Kerplunk, it you could advise how to find the temp folder; it's worth a try. Bristolboy - I live just up the road from you!

Hi guys, considering the number of complaints about 'norton' in this catagory (do a search and see yourself) i would suggest calling it a loss and un-installing anything to do with symantec.

Try Avast home 4, or AVG. both are free, and i have been using Avast for 18 months and am online 24 hours a day. I've had very little problems compared to others, and find Avast to be very un-intrusive.
You just get a pop up each day saying 'Virus database has been updated' its all automatic, and i have never had to call some useless call centre in India to be put on hold for 30 mins either
