corn snake
5 Answers
hi, my sister has had her corn snake for about 2 years and last week she thought it was dead as it went a strange sort of greyish colour round its face...it still looks like it now - she thinks it may be starting to shred its skin but as its done this before and she has never noticed it looking grey like this she is not sure...any ideas ? cheers !

Snakes have skin over their eyes, and this gets cloudy too, so they can't see as well. Your snake may be more prone to striking at you than usual during htis time. Be sure there are sticks and rocks in its cage for it to rub against to help shed the skin.
In addition to kingaroos answer above, it may be helpful to mist the vivarium with water at this time. The extra humidity helps the skin become looser. Sometimes areas around the face and eyes take a long time to come off and if its still there after several days it may be necessary to remove the skin very gently with tweezers( especially if it is covering the eyes, therefore preventing him from hunting), though I must stress you should not attempt this unless you are experienced as you could hurt your snake. Please take him to a vet if unsure!
