My son has gone mad on these lately so I thought I'd make some, duly got some treacle in Tesco this morning only to discover that you need golden syrup and not treacle, what a crock!

What can I use treacle for?

It has always confused the heck out of me too, I love treacle on toast.
is it the black stuff?

I use that to paint over a joint of gammon to make crackling. I also use it in jamaican ginger cake.

Some ideas here

Doesn't make sense at all Mamy, BM, Jamaica Ginger cake is an old favourite of mine but I've never made one before, I will now.

Thank you both for the links, at least I haven't wasted 88p now ;)
Strange, that calling golden syrup 'treacle' seems to be commonplace in England. Yet in Scotland, 'treacle' always means the black stuff - i.e. just as it says on the tin.
what about a treacle sponge?
Treacle toffee
Dark bonfire toffee, or lovely dark gingerbread.
sorry treacle smells bad
Put it in a fruit cake :)
