What is the best solution for getting oil (from a garage) out of a pair of trousers?

They say 'dry clean only', but he needs them for tonight. Will it be ok to wash them on a low setting?

My first thought was something like 'Vanish', but I remember using something by Ariel that was really good also. I'm just a bit nervous about the 'dry clean only' thing.

Any ideas?

TIA (have to pop out but will look on my phone for answers as I need to get something when I'm out) :-)

Thanks MM. Yeah, I'm going to take them to the dry cleaners in a mo and see if they stock anything I can use, or see what they suggest.

Lol @ prudie.

Ah, bless HoneyDip. He can't do right for doing wrong, can he :P
If it's dirty oil, and the trousers are made with any polyester in the fabric, then basically you've had it. The oil will act as a dye on the polyester, and you'll never get the stain out. This is based on years of experience of washing oily overalls with polyester in the fabric.

Thanks Heathfield. That's pretty much what the lady in the dry cleaners said, although I've left them with them anyway.
Madmen - don't mean to offend you here - could you just not buy him a new pair of trousers - things like that have happened to me and no matter what I did never worked or as someone said watermarks - throw them out or let him use them for painting and decorating your home. You are going through enough stress regarding Cliff - just kidding -

Lol @ the Cliff comment :D
Yeah, I know that would be the easy option but he's being awkward.
Saying he can't remember where he bought them, and that he'll now have to buy a whole new suit. Arghhhhh! Bloody men.

Oh, just remembered about your dentist thread.
Hang on...

Glad you got a wee laugh re Cliff - but don't understand the dentist mention - what had you in mind - please enlighten me - maybe I will laugh or cry or have insomnia lol
