glasses - what differences they make??

Hi,

I have just been given glasses, they are a very weak script, and i was initially told i didn't need them at all.

I have noticed a small difference in the sharper edges of things far away. close up, is better without them.

The thing is I have noticed that, with faces in particular, not only do edges and lines become a bit sharper, the darker bits, like creases and lines and the sides of the face get darker and highlights, like the sheen on a bald patch gets lighter.

I have noticed faces become more 3D, whereas they appeared much flatter and all closer in colour without my glasses - which i only wear to watch TV.

is this normal? is this what is supposed to happen?

i feel that, while i can see fine without glasses, this difference in 3D has affected my driving - which i get nervous and sometimes feel like i can't judge distance and speed etc.

could this be the case?

or do all glasses wearers get this effect?

Thanks

I can only comment by referencing my own experience. I am short sighted, and have been since my teens.Wearing glasses brings everything into sharp focus, and when I have a script change there is an acclimatization phase.

I certainly could not drive without my glasses.... I can't quite understand from your post whether you meant that you felt your driving suffered when wearing glasses, or got better.

The only other thing I would mention is the amazing improvement in all round visibility when i changed to contact lenses for a while. The fact that you could see clearly without it being "framed" was amazing!

Unfortunately for me, I find that all types of contact lenses irritate my eyes now, so I am stuck with glasses :)

I have not yet driven with glasses.

My problem is the darkness and lightness changes - is this usual or is there something wrong with my 3D vision that the glasses are also correcting along with the minor blurring?

does everyone get this? I only noticed by doing a kind of "eric morcambe glasses wiggle" and saw the difference in dark and light.

darker gets darker, lighter gets lighter.

I think I have that effect with the lightness and darkness joko... its more noticeable during my acclimatization phase if or when my script changes. I have always put it down to the improvement in sharpness and clarity.

I experienced something similar when i was first given glasses (just for seeing far away when i needed to, i also didn't need them for driving). I couldn't bear wearing them at first because everything looked weird and i also felt unsafe driving in them, but as time has gone on i've got used to them and now i find them completely comfortable and everything looks normal through them. They are particularly great when driving in the dark which is when i need them most. I'm sure you'll get used to them as your eyes acclimatize to them :)

I have worn glasses since 3. As the perscrip changes I find the same '3d' effect. It wares off after a couple of days as you get used to them. Your eyes will adapt. I have occationally had the same effect if I have cleaned them after they have become very dirty. Keep waring them you'll get used to it and it will stop you getting headaches and your eyes getting worse.

all the best
