DVD Freezing

My JVC player will play pre-recorded discs with no problems. But if you play a movie burned onto disc from the internet, the picture freezes or just seizes up all together. I am led to believe it is due to the 'layers' on the disc used. I have loads of 'burned' discs which I buy from other sources. As I cannot guarantee my player will play a bought disc properly, does anyone know how to stop this happening? If I need a new player, does anyone know of a player which will play these discs with no problems? Thanks.

Have you tried different brands of Disc oris this for all types, ive had similar problems with certain brands but not others and wouldn't reckon its the way its burnt,more likely the disc itself -ive tried the same film/same burning software with a different disc and its worked fine.
I'd invest in different discs before going for a new player, but I'm tight :-)

The problem is it's not me burning the discs in the first place. I buy them from other people, so I am at the mercy of whatever make of disc they choose. I want a DVD player which will guarantee to play the best and the worst.

Your JVC may not read certain discs (dvd-r/dvd+r / rw) & this could be the problem. Check your manual & see what type of discs your JVC will read. Apparently Pacific (usually in Asda) are very good for playing all sorts of discs & only cost around �40.00

If you have bought a legitimate disc that won't play, then the supplier should be happy to refund you. If you are talking about pirates, well then you knew the risks when you bought them.

Thanks everyone. I have just borrowed a colleagues cheap 'Bush' player, which I shall take home tonight and try out. Our I.T Manager at work (whose a rather clever guy) says the cheaper ones play bad quality discs better, as the more expensive ones tend to pick up the faults.

Look at the DVD players on the Aria.co.uk site. They should play anything and are a reasonable price. Some people like the ones from Maplin or Novatech.
