The way in which the whole benefit system has been manipulated by this ogre, should be the benchmark for all involved in future legislation on handing out benefits. No-one should be able to claim anything other than basic help, for a limited time. Any form of benefit is not a right, but a helping hand. Bring on reform asap.

I agree with the OP. Benefits should not be a lifestyle choice, but there to help in times of genuine need.

Oh, I see, jack.
good old benefits i worked for 37 yrs got made redundant and got 6 mths job seekers allowance then told your getting nothing because i have not paid in enough? told use your savings which i had to until i managed to get a job.i'm doing it all wrong should have knocked out 10 kids and sat on my Yabbie but i'm not like that i want to work something wrong somewhere!!!
I would suggest that before anyone take the Daily Mail line about this scum, they read the judges summing up.

You will see that in the view of a man who actualy sat and listened to 8 weeks of evidence that the only thing about benifits is the fact that he was on them.

The fire was about control, the want, to frame his ex-partner, in a very strange relationship and an inflated ego, helped by tv apperances that inflated his "self worth". Attempting to lay any balme for the actions of a Socio/Psychopath against the welfare system is yet again the right wings way of attacking those from whom they have taken livilyhoods and hope.

Lets not for get 2008's workers are now 2013 scroungers according to IDS
Yes you're right hc, just making sure I wasn't missing out on anything ;)
A woman.
Rocky, if he was earning over 100 thou he could still get childbenefits but he would have to off set them with his tax should he so wish - entitlement to that benefit will always remain no matter how much he earns.
But that would be fraud if he didn't offset though wouldn't it fgt?
Sorry the if he so wish comment was aimed at the fact that he can continue receiveing the benefit.

Entitlement remains though
:)
The Child Benefit would be all that he got though, surely.

And sorry for calling you surley. :)

/// I know, hc, I was just providing the figures that have been bandied about to illustrate that they were not in receipt of £98,000 worth of benefits, as had been suggested. ///

That's a new one quoting Daily Mail figures to prove your point. :0)
I know, AOG..........I'm not proud of myself.............:o)

Not yet Jordyboy, not yet!!
This may be a little off-topic but the benefit culture of which the Phiipotts would appear to be master of, had very little to do with the murder of the 6 kids. This couple were stupid, scheming, criminals. But criminality exists in all walks of life.

The great sadness here is that the Philpotts were clearly not fit to have any children under their care, let alone the huge number that were, and the authorities should have taken the kids into care a long time ago.

It is plain that if they had, all these kids would still be alive. There is little point in trying to make political capital out of this tragedy, and Osborne should be ashamed of himself.

osborne. should be ashamed of himself. using the death of 6 children to assist his '' benefit reforms'' the philpotts and friend are evil people,
Dave the dog...you are right. I have just read the Judges comments on-line and they are devastating. Philpott should have been apprehended a long ago. He is so obviously a dangerous psychopath. I am not one of those "string em up" people but Philpott was sentenced for attempted murder years ago. I can't understand a justice system that allows an obviously psychopathic and dangerous criminal out of jail after he has done his sentence, if it looks like he is likely to re-offend ?

It was Phillpots greed which led to his idea to start the fire, in order to get custody of his other five children, therefore boosting his income even further. To my mind, he was attempting to manipulate again. I agree that he is evil, and deserves never to be free again. The poor children were pawns in his twisted mind.
The judge said there was no indication that benefits or money was the motivation.
