Compromised Yahoo Account

I've recently found out that an old Yahoo account of mine has been sending out spam emails. I tried to close my account, but they need me to verify it with another email account that I can't access.
I contacted Yahoo last Thursday, notifying them of the situation, but as of yet, they haven't contacted me, or shut down my account, which has continued to send out spam.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I can't always tell who's receiving these emails, and i don't know how dangerous they are.

Thanks,
SP

If you have no way of getting into your old account because you've lost access to the second one, then I'd have thought informing the provider (Yahoo) is all you can do. After that it is in their court. You can chase them up if you wish.

Thanks Old_Geezer, I just tried calling them as well, but as I can't answer my security question, it seems there's nothing they can do unfortunately.
If it was unused for any length of time they'd have no problem deleting it to save resource. I'm unsure why they would tell you there was nothing they could do, unless they didn't believe you were the owner maybe ?

They can't progress in the system if you can't give them the answer to you security system, preventing them from closing the account. Fortunately, I remembered the answer to my security question and closed my account! Plus, I found a freephone number, so didn't even have to pay to call them :)
You could change the password to something really long and varied that nobody would ever guess, and then stop using the account yourself.
Or to stop it sending out spam emails as if from you, just delete all the entries in the account's address book.
