Angiogram

Has any one got any info good or bad on angiograms....how long will i be there and whats the procedure....more WILL IT HURT Im booked in for 5th May PRE-OP on 25/4

No....just a piece of cake.

Takes about 30 mins, usually done as a day case.........a bit of bruising around the groin and the only "pain " is a prick in the groin as the local anesthetic is inserted.

Oh! you may or may not feel some warmth in your chest as the dye is inserted.

Hi impact - you will be fine. I have had this procedure more than once and it is painfree. You should get an appointment from your hospital for a pre-op chat with a nurse in the cardiac dept. All will be explained to you. Just stay calm and take a good book with you - there can be a bit of a wait before the procedure is done depending on the number of patients in on the day and your position on the list.

My Mum had this when she was in her early 90s and after the angiogram result they decided to carry out an angioplast at the same time - she went as an out patient but because they were so late in the day getting round to her they kept her in overnight because of her age. It was successful and a painful complaint of several years standing disappeared completely (the angiogram/plast was recommended when she moved house and got a new GP, the previous one dismissed the problem as "getting old"). I was allowed to accompany her right up to the annex of the Operating Theatre (obviously no further), and the pre-op surgeon was one of the kindest people I've ever met. There are LOTS of good people in the NHS.
