Ipad/ipad Mini

I've been offered a deal on one of these at work. It'll mainly be an e-reader (books and magazines) with a few apps, possibly some music storage and for accessing the internet when I'm camping in the middle of a field somewhere.

Please don't suggest saving my money and sticking with my smartphone because I'm becoming rather short-sighted in my old age and that's not going to get any better, so I need something bigger. Clearly the full-sized iPad will be more future-proof from that point of view and will almost as portable. I just wondered whether anyone out there has any experience with either/both.

I had an ipad which I loved and switched to an ipad mini which is a million times better in my view. Both in Kindle and ibooks, the font size is adjustable and you can zoom the screen when web browsing so shortsightedness is not an issue. What is lovely about the mini is that the size and lightness make it much easier to take everywhere than lugging the standard ipad around.

PS get the most memory that you can afford if you are interested in future proofing it

I too have an ipad2 with 3G (for Internet access anywhere). I love it. It was more expensive than other devices but to me personally it was the best money I have spent in ages. The only thing I should have done was spent more money for bigger memory. But I have used it so much.

If access to the internet in the middle of the field is important to you then do concentrate on your connection ie 3G v memory when it comes to making the decision. I like the ipad and see no reason for opting for a mini unless its about weight and carry size.

These new-fangled small tablets are really neat but you don't have to buy an ipad. After all, you don't need to buy a BMW just to go to the papershop every day !

I have a Samsung GALAXY Tab 2, which I find smashing. It would seem to do everything that the much more expensive ipad does, but for half the money. Mine cost me £148 in Tesco, and I had £20 cash back after 8 weeks.
