Cake Decorating Prices

I`m thinking of making a wedding cake for a friend but want someone else to ice it. Has anyone who has used a cake decorator got any idea of prices? I know it will vary by area but I want to know if it`s viable. Thanks

How many tiers will it be? Will it be simply iced or do they want sugar flowers and piping on it?

I asked a friend who makes cakes for weddings etc, she said it would depend on what you wanted, marzipan and royal icing, icing flowers and chalk pillars between tiers, plus a cake topper of vase and flowers cascading/ or icing couple around £100 for a three tier cake. If you wanted lattice work on the sides and piped flowers from £120 - this lady is a professsional who teaches sugarcraft

£100 is very cheap for a 3-tier cake! Tell her to up her prices! You would pay around £200 plus around here for a 3-tier wedding cake, simply iced. I make a decorate cakes too and I have been asked to do my friends wedding cake. I'm not charging them for it, but if I was it would be more than £100.

I know I had a quote for the owl design I did myself for approx £375

My mum`s a dab hand with the royal icing but I fancied fondant icing. Maybe I`ll have a go myself. One of my best friends is getting married and there are only going to be two of us (me + 1 ) at the wedding and we are witnesses. It`s kind of down to me to do everything on the day for them. They`ve both been married before so it`s not a big deal but I thought I might suprise them with a cake.
