I posted this this question a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have changed my toothpaste back to Colgate from Mentadent P (I worked back that it started when I bought Mentadent P). My gums have stopped bleeding and are not sore anymore. I will still visit the dentist but my appointment isn't for a while, but has anyone ever heard of an allergy to toothpaste?? Could that have been the problem?

Hi Daks - sorry I didn't see your original Q
I have sensitive gums & I'm not sure allergy is the right explanation but I think that some toothpaste definitely suits me better than others (I like Arm and Hammer Extra Whitening) and I've just had to change my toothbrush as the last (wisdom) one was terrible, despite claiming to be soft. I've just bought some Oral B ones currently on offer in Boots & they're great.
Incidentally, I find digestive biscuits lethal for my gums - always makes them sore :-(

A swish with warm salt water is great for sore bleeding gums btw
I am allergic to the whitening active ingredient in toothpaste , but it makes like millions of little lumps on my gums in my case.

Hey Dak - you can indeed be allergic to toothpaste as you can to anything and it may well have been the brand change that did it.

Glad the bleeding gums have stopped! But it is definitely worth telling your dentist. And if it does happen again try the Corsodyl I recommended last time, it really does work!
