I absolutely hate hospitals but this was where I was for 5 hours last night. Yeterday morning I got up, got myself and Little Tiggs ready and drove to the childminder. I parked up just in time before I had the most excruciating pain in my abdomen. Sat in the car for a bit and then got out and walked Little Tiggs to the childminder. Ask I knocked on the door I felt like I was going to pass out. Went in and sat down for a bit. Called my mum and she came and got me and we went to the docs who couldn't see me as it was packed in there. Went back in the afternoon and gp referred me to A&E with suspected ovarian cyst.

Anyway, 4 blood tests, a urine test and several hours later I was diagnosed with a twisted ovary and discharged with a pack of cocodamol. I took the cocodamol but the spasms still continued. I'm still feeling quite tender in the abdominal area so I didn't go into work today.

The one thing I am glad of though is that it was not something I had to be admitted for as I hate hospitals. I have absolutely no fear of the dentists and like having my teeth cleaned and polished. Am I in the minority here? I hate going to the docs as well!

No ultrasound was done. I guess he based his diagnosis by the symptoms I was describing.
I love the term mittelschmerz. That, and borboryigmi...

Anyway, I digress.

You may not be familiar with my recent medical events tigger, but I was admitted to A&E 5 weeks ago. To cut a long story short, I am now recuperating from a radical hysterectomy and await g results. I don't want to scare you, and sqad your wording is vague, but worrying, but tigger go to the docs and demand some further follow up,at the very least. These things have a way of escalating.
I can tell when I'm ovulating on the right side only, by powers of deduction I know when it's the left :S It's quite an acute pain. I would just check with you GP next time you're there and ask why you were sent home with that diagnosis.

Thats very interesting Sqad. Never heard of that term before but it does sound like that could be it. My last period was about 3 weeks ago so would that tie in with my symptoms?

Sorry to hear that Salla. I hope you're recovering well xxx
tigger, are you ovulating now ?
Question Author
I can never tell Goods. I'm not very good with the "in tune with my body" thing.
Right...that makes sense ...now.

Don't worry...;-)

Thanks Sqad. Does the Mittel.... symptoms include sharp twinges just above the top of the thigh?
It's horrible tiggs, I am such a mess when I get it, The pain is that bad I throw up, and throw up some more, The doctors gave me strong pain killers for when it comes on, They do not touch it, I walk the bedroom for ours some nights.
tigger...mittel ...means middle.....middle of your menstrual cycle.

The "sharp twinges" on the top of the thigh are referred pain from the ovary.
^^^^ Sharp Twinges.....More like bloody contractions.

This is the first time I've ever had this pain Josaphine, which is probably why I thought something was wrong, specially when I nearly passed out. The childminder said I looked very pale and then I had tingling in my hands just after that. I felt nauseous during the day as well.
I think you need an ultrasound. Possibly a transvaginal one (internal and external) - don't worry, it doesn't hurt a bit. Just for reassurance.

Thanks Sqad, you have put my mind at rest :o)

Thank you everyone for your help x
It is so horrible, Mine comes on without no warning at all and straight into full blown pain on the ovary, I can not drive with it ( can't do anything really ) until it passes, apart from walking rying and beeing sick, as soon as i can't keep the pain killers down as I am constantely sick, and then all day I am left with what i call threatning ovary pain, quick sharp pain then gone.
Question Author
I'll make a note if and at what time during my cycle it occurs again Salla, and go from there. Thank you for your concern :o) x
This episode of mine has taught me not to ignore symptoms. Mine were few and far between, but looking back now I should have said something earlier - fgs I work in a GP surgery !!!
Question Author
I was lucky I'd just parked up before the excruciating bit started Josephine. I do feel for you if this is a regular occurance each month :o( It was horrible.

Aww Salla, I have a habit of ignoring most pain that I get apart from the ulcer related one for which I'm taking Lansoprazole for.
