My housemate wrote off his car recently in a road accident (he's fine). However, I understand that although you used to have to pay to scrap your car that is no longer the case because of the shortage of base metals. He's considering ripping the car apart and selling seats etc as parts but is there someway he can get a company to buy the car for the metals and parts instead? We live in Cornwall if that helps. Thanks for any advice.
If the car is off the Highway you can sell what you want off the car, If the car is on the highway you will be done if there is no tax on the Vehicle, contact any scrap yard in your are for the removal, you can get from 50 up to a 100 depending what car it is, if there is tax on the car make sure you send it back before the removal by the scrap yard as they will get the refund, & don't forget to inform the DVLA that the car has been scrapped, that is done on your Log book.
i doubt any scrapyard will pay you any money for it nowadays, they will take it away for maybe a small amont, also the council will take it away for you.
Yes, you can get money for it. I got 60 for mine a few months ago, afterwards I saw in the newspaper, a firm who were giving a guaranteed 120 for any car, any condition. I live in the South East, but the metal shortage is everywhere, so I don't see why you wouldn't get the same amount. Shop around.
