Does anyone know how much it cost to have a Cataract operation on one eye please?

I had one done NHS 3 months ago today and still waiting for a second appointment. I've called the surgeons secretary 3 times with no forthcoming appointment in the pipeline. The surgeon did my "best" eye first, leaving me struggling to see much at all.
I have had a lens put in my old frame to be going on with, but its still far from satisfactory.

I'm pretty fed up now and my husband wants me to consider paying for it, tho after all this time I must surely be somewhere near the top of the list.

I've just entered 'cost of cataract surgery in uk' into Google, and I got a lot of websites. You might get some useful information there.

I think it depends on the degeneration, I was quoted £2,000 per eye.

I paid just over £5000 for two. The advantage is that you can have multi-focal lenses put in which the NHS don't fit. I had mine done by Optimax. One one week and the next the week after. I don't need gasses at all now.

I would make a right nuisance of myself, ringing or turning up in person to enquire until they did the op to get rid of me.

smoneybags I don't have that sort of money to spare, but I so wish I did. A friend recently paid for her son to have both his done. Both done within 2 weeks and successful.

Hopkirk I feel I have been making a nuisance of myself already. I am wondering if my GP could intervene.

My consultant told me over and over I wouldn't need specs again, but I most definitely do with the one eye thats been done.

I would try the GP, and perhaps get a bit emotional about it while you are at it.
