i want to type a document with the title at the top followed by the rest of the text immediatly underneath ,rather similar to the layout of these question titles and questions ,after i type the title i press enter to place the cursor on the next line but that is halfway down the page ,how can i reduce this gap

My best guess would be that there's something hidden in the gap. Try "File"-"new" and see if its the same on a brand new sheet. I'm no expert but hope it helps

Have you checked the line spacing settings? Go to 'Format' + 'Paragraph'. For normal, everday use, the line spacing should be set to 'single'.

if you have made the title a large font, when you press enter it will go to the next line with the same size font. when you press enter, then change the font size and it should move up a bit

Try holding down the SHIFT key while you press ENTER

thanks to you all for your answers i tried each one in turn , i tried a new file ,the format was set on single holding the shift key worked a treat ,thanks once again
