There seems to be a sort of "hat" theme in today's crossword.

Unless I've got it all wrong, LOL

So ...

27(d) It's possible to bear chap having a row, say (6)

I think it's BOATER, although I'm not sure why, except for the "row" bit. And then I thought, heeey, maybe it's BOATIE !!
