Mrs May proposes to charge any intending immigrants from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh, Nigeria, or Ghana £3,00 each before any application to enter will be considered. This is part of her plan to reduce immigration. Bring me your poor, your huddled masses? Er,no! The scheme is similar to that used in Australia. A good idea? Will it work? Will it stop Tory voters going to UKIP?

The usual scare tactics, ie takes us out of Europe and see prices, jobs etc etc..............

Well at least this shows Theresa May understands the issues better than a lot of people on this thread!

Guess what? Despite all the documentaries (if you can call them that) most illegal immigrants don't enter the UK hanging onto the underside of lorries at Dover.

Most simply walk past immigration with a valid visa which they then overstay or work on.

This is obviously aimed at that and one assumes that the nationalities it is aimed at are the ones where this is the biggest problem.


So would this work and would there be unforeseen problems?

Probably yes to both!

It's not a bad idea but I think it needs a tweak or two

Firstly it should be an option (preferred option) for someone to vouch for you and be liable for your bond - someone in the UK signs to be liable if you don't return.

You might decide it's worth the money to stay - you've already paid it anyway, probably a few months pay - what the heck! If you've got your Uncle about to lose £3K he's much more likely to track you down and hand you in!

It also needs consideration about student visas

Foreign students are a big source of foreign income to the UK and this stupid government seems to be trying its best to shut down that income and cripple Universities at the same time - a different approach is needed here.

Possibly an institutional bond that a University needs to pay that would become forfeit if too many of it's students do not return. This would address dodgy institutions that pop up as a front for immigration scams.

So I'd say this particular 'Theresa-May-for-PM' idea is a B+ Shows promise needs a bit more work

you know as well as i do that there is no absolute proof, same as the loon from corby knows that it would be virtually impossible to "find " links.

if governments wanted to stop immigration they could have done. they were quick enough to send troops to the falkands, where theres a will theres a way, but everybody is now so scared to say anything about immigration, specifically coloured that its now a not very funny joke

As I said before theres probably a fair few on here (who try to claim theyre intelligent) that know i'm right but just like arguing and to get involved in a points scoring match and theres probably others who wont deign to say anything

I've had the misfortune to drive from central london this afternoon ( thats why no early reply, i know some on here expect immediate replies..pffft) via walworth, parts of camberwell....what a joke, might as well have been in some african village.

tony, polish DO the work theyre paid for without slacking. They are diligent and thorough and appreciate the opportunity. Theyre in hospitals, airport, caterers, council AND firemen. They rent privately and manage to RHE regularly to build own homes in Poland. Their kids school here as english language is valued in Poland.

it would seem that many students are over staying their visas, so perhaps this is a way to get them to leave after their studies are up.
