Has anyone used this instead of MS Office?
Is is straightforward and compatible with Windows 8?
I would be grateful for any comments on it.
Many thanks

I use OpenOffice on my netbook (with Windows 7) and I find it really easy to use. There should be no problems using it with Windows 8.

For possible alternatives, together with important advice on saving files in OpenOffice, please see my post here:

Thanks, Chris.
You are most helpful (and very quick off the mark, too).
I think I'll give it a try.
Thanks again.

Just to add, Open Office runs perfectly on Windows 8 and Libre Office has less bells and whistles but can read and save to more MS Office file formats - .docx for example.
