Healing Correctly?

6 weeks ago I had an abscess under my arm drained and had to have the hole packed 3 x a week. I was then told I could change the dressing myself as it no longer needed packing. Half of the incision has healed nicely but the other half is still open with what looks like a lump of skin sticking out and it weeps a creamy fluid (doesnt look or feel infected/like pus). Does this sound normal?

Sounds like the lump of skin may well be fibrous tissue from the infection.

Gently pull it out.

Let us know how you get on...it shouldn't be painful to do.

I had the same with the abscess on my leg (though it was still being packed at the time) and it just sorted itself out.
