Yes it is disturbing. Why would any sane person do things like that?

a person has been presumably. This isn't just about putting someone's face on a bank note, it's about the idea you can send death and rape threats to a woman and think that it's ok you won't be caught because it's anonymous.
and that this kind of thinking, attitude in some quarters still prevails. Nothing to do with old style feminism, i do wonder at the people who do this, what extremely sad and vile lives they must lead.

The Internet is the most wonderful invention, and its even-handedness and access to all is to be applauded, but ...
it does give a voice to every moron who can manage a keyboard, and the downside of such access is incidents like this.
There is no point trying to work out the motivation of people who communicate this vitriol, there is no point, if asked, they would say they don't know why, and they would be right.
Understanding actions such as tweeting means an ability to think outside the obvious obligations like breathing, eating and sleeping, and some individuals genuinely do not possess such thought processes.
It makes me happy that i have nothing to do with any sociak media, i regard it as a waste of my valuable time to communicate with strangers by this means - I don't believe my life and thoughts are that important.
