When you are a little upset, not crying but just emotional, why why why do you end up sobbing and snotting everywhere the minute somebody puts their arm around you or asks if you are ok? Yet can hold yourself together when something bad happens?

Being touched by another's concern. Exact thing happened to me yesterday, at work, and I'm a bloke. not good.

i thought it was just me that did that kind of thing.

Because physical contact programmes the release of emotions. It makes us feel loved and cared for and safe - a perfect emotional environment to release any pent up tears.
oh sweetie - is this more wedding nerves coming to the fore? You OK?? Hope this is just a general question and not caused by a specific upset. xxx
dogfish - bless you, nothing to be ashamed of.

Awwww, thanks kick3m0n

It was really a general question because yellowduck's previous Q made me think. I think I am just going to have to accept it will a rocky road between now and March 4th!

I did wonder though, as it seems to happen to everyone, you can hold yourself together until someone (inevitably) puts a hand on your shoulder. It's fatal.

Dogfish, kick3m0n's right, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Seems there are plenty of people on here to blub with today ;-)

Hope you're feeling better today lovely x

also because you have to give an answer and compose yourself enough to either tell them whats wrong or say you are fine. saying you are fine when you are not also gives a stab of despair that make you feel 'i shouldn't have to pretend' kind of thing

it like a trigger switch

that happens to me! i remember walking into a lesson at school with a sad face one day, and as i sat down next to my friend he said "oh darling, what's wrong?!" and that was it - tears and snot everywhere. he had to escort me rapidly from the classroom. it was almost like i felt completely alone and at that moment, realised i wasn't, and maybe it was the relief or something but just everything came out.
Thanks people, just bad day missing my kids. Love of a good woman helped me through. (tears well up).
