Which Tablet?

Hubby has £350 to buy a tablet - he does not want to spend it all!!

We already have an ipad so to my mind its pointless getting another one, it would have to replace his laptop as he would need to print if possible letters from it.

Any advice?

Unless he needs to replace his laptop I would suggest he doesn't bother buying a tablet. Technology is moving so quick and until you are required for what ever reason to upgrade I'd suggest to hang fire.

How big a screen? I'm very pleased with my Nexus 7 and a new model is out soon.

If he wants a 10", have a look at the Galaxy 10.

Get the Google nexus 7...as good as an iPad (check reviews) but a whole lot cheaper. I think there is even a new version out.

His laptop is over 8years old so it really does need replacing!

I suggested the Nexus 7it looks good, does it have USB sockets HC?

Well, there is a new Kobo coming out soon but I love my Kobo arc, it'as like having my laptop with me when i am out and about, the only issue i have with it is that it only has a front facing camera, but i do have one on my phine and so not too big an issue. my oh has an ipad and he has a dongle in it that costs £10 a month and he can connect via wi fi anywhere even when driving along, but of course tablets aren't like that. still, for lots of stuff it is excellent. and yes they update alot but only the hardware features and styles, the software will always upgrade. an arc is £159.99 16gb and £189.99 32 gb, mine is a 32, it doesn;t need an sd card either with that capacity.

No usb socket - the latest model may. You can get some sort of cable for connecting usb devices. An OTG cable. I haven't found the need for one.

dot, an iPad is a tablet and some other tablets do have 3G connectivity. I connect my Nexus wireless to my smartphone if I want to connect it to the internet when I'm out and about away from wifi.

That is not a USB socket in the tablet, though. You can't plug a printer, an external hard drive or a dongle in to that, you need an OTG cable.

i've not tried to use anything in it but a micro sd lead, though that must mean it is a host port rather than just a charging port, it charges via a plug socket.

Because we have another laptop (mine) so no need for another one really!

And if hegets a tablet it stops him pinching mine!

FGT you could either go and stand at the demo displays in tesco, asda, argos etc and play around with the various devices to your hearts content, or go into smiths to their kobo shop and get one to one knowledg able informed advice on each device, it's up to you lol

Has your hubby considered a netbook? They provide the 'middle ground' between laptops and tablets, being smaller and lighter than a laptop but still with a proper keyboard and USB ports. I use an Acer Aspire One D270.

What about an iPad Mini? If you use the same account you can then install all the stuff you have paid for on his iPad. If your printer is Airprint compatible you can also print from it too.
