Removing Honey And Honeycomb From A Wooden Surface

Have already asked this question on chatterbank but, it may be more judicious to also ask here.

My daughter has honeycomb and honey on the inside of window shutters and obviously now needs to find some way of removing the remains. The bees have been safely removed by a bee keeper.

Use of hot water or steam may help to dissolve the residue
