You might think this is a bit mad....but we're like that where we work! Where do dead birds end up? Do they die in the sky and fall to the ground? Considering how many birds there are...you never see dead ones...aprt from birds that nasty cats have caught and played with? Sorry if you all think we're a bit loopy!! Thanks. OOh also has anyone ever seen a baby pigeon...are they hidden away until they reach adulthood??!!

I suppose that when a bird feels a bit ill it doesn't feel like flying and goes and roosts in the enclosed protection of undergrowth or hedgerows to meet its maker - also I think the 'survival of the fittest' philosophy means that natural predators pick off the sick and old birds before they reach a natural end. As for baby pigeons, haven't a clue! Perhaps they get big really quickly in the nest and look fully grown when they come out to join the adults!

Your not mad, if you don't ask questions you will never know the answer!

This question has been asked before but not on here.

The reason you never see dead ones is because they are soon consumed by Maggots and having very small and light bodies they soon dissapear.

As for baby pidgeons yes your right.

PS My cat is very loving and not at all nasty but she does like catching birds and mice but she always eats them, that is the way of the animal world.

I once read that they fly towards the nearest pond and drown themselves when their time is nearly up (or the sea if they are puffins, albatross', etc...). A bit like elephants are drawn towards them big graveyards as often depicted in Tarzan movies, where the nasty white hunters wanted to steal all of the tusks from.

Thanks all for your answers...they all make a lot of sense.I asked the pigeon thing to someone today and they told me that, yes ,pigeons stay in the nest until they are almost as big as the adults so you'd never know the difference. Thanks again.
