A very straightforward grid fill. Mmm..... but now how to fill the barred off cells?? I'm not so good when given artistic licence....

Most enjoyable though and thanks to Chalicea.

I think we have artistic licence here, don't we, rather than the 3 letter word?
The definitive answer to that is NO. If nothing else, why are exactly three cells needed?
If I'm thinking of the same 3 letter word as you are, it is already in the grid.
Ah! Head-slap moment! I was thinking of the wrong 3 letter word.
Hello again and grateful thanks to the EV Answerbankers for your usual warm welcome to my offering, and for your tolerance. So sorry about the errors, I don't know how Bryon crept in. This is one that was submitted to and edited by the editor who sadly died this spring: of course, we grew to love him for those little errors that became almost a trademark (in no way was this the fault of the new editor) and fortunately we had, as usual, put that the ODQ is the work of reference. It never occurred to double check with Wiki! Another setting lesson learnt: don't even trust the Oxford sources!
