I was told by someone who is supposedly doing this that, if you are over 70 & work part time, you can work whatever hours you chose & the company have to honour this. (I'm currently contracted for 15 hours but would like to do less later on in the year.) I would appreciate confirmation or denial of this & any rules & regulations that may be relevant.

Thanks

I seriously doubt it otherwise no firm would employ anyone over the age of 70!

this doesn't sound likely.

why would a company legally have to allow one of it employees to do this just because of their age?? they would have to have someone to fill the gap you leave.

what has being 70 got to do with work hours?

perhaps they meant times of hours rather that amount??

many may be very accommodating because of your age if you ask them nicely, but i doubt its the law

I suggest either speaking to your company direct or if you don't feel like thats a good idea, contact the citizens advice bureau (its free) they will be able to give a definite up to date answer.

Sounds like Bovine guano to me!

Thank you one & all. You've only confirmed my suspicions. (Mind you, with the EU making all the rules these days, anything is possible!!!). An avenging wind-up has been planned & will now be put into operation.
