Playing poker is what the americans and French are about to do - isn,t it ?

That is taking a chance that whatever action they embark on in Syria is not going to backfire on them .

Well Putin has implied that if that happen's he'll sell state of the art anti-aircraft missiles to the Iranians.

And Israel is well within range of Syria's ballistic missile systems

A strike on Syria without a UN resolution would almost certainly be illegal under international law too which would provide immense propaganda value to all sorts of anti-US groups.

I am not very well informed on American politics. I have just looked at the seats in Congress, and the Democrats have a slight majority. 52 Democrats - 46 Republicans. Not sure how a vote will go. Will Republicans vote en masse for Obama's proposals? Will all the Democrats support their President? Any of our US based AB friends willing to explain or guess how the vote will go?

baz, suggest that if America does lob a few missiles at Syria, that will escalate matters to a place they nor we wish to go. Russia has stated it's aim
quite clearly, as one poster already said. America wouldn't want to see Israel fired upon, so war escalates, and whilst that is happening you have McCain playing poker. instead they should all be listening to the people that put them in office, and that includes UK.
