Hi I posted last week that I was suffering pain in my back. I believe it's muscle strain of some sort. Been to walk in centre and docs and both agree. Pain is on right side middle of my rib cage. Doc prescribed 15mg codeine phosphate - taking two four times a day. Amoxicillin antibiotics as she said possibly getting chest infection due to not breathing correctly with the pain. Had it a week now and been on the tablets since fri. I've rested up all weekend but actually feeling worse today. Pain is horrendous and I cannot seem to get any relief. I cannot seem to stand or sit up for any length of time. How long can I expect this to last? It doesn't hurt to breathe and I can move my arms, neck head ok. It's just one small section of my back causing an immense amount of pain. It's driving me nuts!!
No expert but it sounds a little more than a muscle strain to me, that I would have thought would have eased considerably in a week.
Agree with Naomi, it needs more checking out to see what's going on.
Sounds horrible.
I say that because I had what was diagnosed (without an x-ray or scan) as a 'trapped nerve', sent to a physio - result permanent nerve damage in my spine. It turned out to be a slipped disc and should never have been treated as it was. The problem you have breathing and the pain you describe in your rib cage sounds very familiar. Don't take the doctor's word for it - he's guessing - and don't do anything without getting it checked out properly.
Thanks for your replies. My nurse friend is suggesting I go to a&e today squad for a x-ray as she said its odd the doc put me on antibiotics for muscle pain. They said I had bit of a temp on fri and I've been bit like that since, just sort of breaking out in a hot sweat but I've out it down to anxious due to the pain. She said it could lead to pneumonia? Is that right?
Ow ow ow.... I pulled the muscles in my back a couple of months ago, it was agony! It was about 2 weeks before the pain started to ease. Even laying in bed was painful as for trying to turn over....
I really feel for you and hope you get well soon.
