Cheetahs' spots are quite square?
They look like crazy paving.
Not perfectly square are they. But I can't think of another animal quite as distinctive as the giraffe's hide. Makes one wonder how it helps the animal to blend into it's surroundings. I suspect maybe it doesn't.
It does when they are babies -)
Stange as it may seem, the giraffe is remarkably well camouflaged under the dappled shade of trees!
If you google 'giraffe camouflage' and check out the images' some seem almost invisible!
Giraffes make themselves practically invisible when they are standing in a grove of trees. Tigers too, inspite of their resplendent colours, disappear in grass. You can be a couple of feet away and still not see them. Quite amazing.
Jaguars have odd-shaped camouflage pretty much the same as giraffes. As explained above, this disruptive marking is very effective in the dappled shadow of trees. Perfectly round spots are a lot easier to spot.
