Installing MP3 Software

My grand-daughter has been given an MP3 player for Christmas, and I'm trying to download some tunes for her. It came with a CD, so I have tried to install it on my PC, but all that happens is that the 'flying paper between two files' display comes up and stays there until the PC is shut down and re-booted.

It's apparent that the software will not install - I have AVG software for net protection, could this be preventing the upload, and if so, how do I get around this problem?

Andy what sort of mp3 player is it, and what OS are you using? windows xp?

if it's just a generic mp3 player, and if you run windows XP or 2000, you should just be able to plug the thing in to a USB port, and windows will automatically detect it. then it'll appear as an external drive in my computer. just try dragging some mp3s across to the drive.

The problem is, I have Windows 98, and it says I need to install the software first - hence my problem. I'm not sure what the Player is - I'll have to post again tomorrow, but if anyone has any advice meanwhile, please feel free.
